There are many Awards you can do. These Awards will make you a more rounded Surf Life Saver plus provide you with very useful life skills that you may unexpectedly need to call on at home, the Office, at, School on holidays, etc.

Advanced Resuscitation Techniques Course

Long Reef plans to run an Advanced Resuscitation Techniques Course in February dates TBC.

The aim of the course:
To provide participants with more advanced skills, knowledge in the application of oxygen, airway management devices (OP Airways), automated external defibrillators, during resuscitation and in a variety of emergency situations.

Why would I do this course, aren’t these covered in the Bronze training?
This course takes your skills to the next level. You will learn advanced techniques with the use of equipment that aims to improve patient survival rates. The course will run for one evening, plus one full day. Please register your interest by emailing chief.instructor@longreef.com.

IRB Drivers and Crew courses

Following the initial introduction, the courses will run one day of the weekend from 7.30am and one day during the week or after Robs patrol at 5.30 pm.

For those early birds training kicks off this Saturday at 9.30 am while Rob is on patrol.

Approx. date for exams will be 3rd or 4th of February. Send me an email if you’re interested chief.instructor@longreef.com but be quick positions will fill fast.

Now for the big guns…

If you already have many Awards then you should try for your GOLD MEDALLION. This is the Pinnacle of Surf Life Saving and the Award held by professional Life Guards. It is achieved by completing and being Proficient in the pre-requisite awards (Bronze, First Aid, Beach Management, Advanced Resuscitation Techniques) followed by the exam itself.

A test of Surfskills and Fitness
Swim: 800metres in a pool no less than 25metres in under 14 minutes
Mission: Swim 400m, Run 800m, Swim 400m, Run 800m in 25 minutes
Rescues: Tube Rescue with fins 100m out to sea, plus Board Rescue 200m out to sea
Carries: One man drag and patient lay
