Fellow Longy members
First of all I hope you all had a safe and happy Christmas and New Year. It has been a great start to 2018 for the club with nippers and cadets back in full swing and many exciting activities and events still ahead of us.
As you know our club is part of the larger Surf Lifesaving movement. With all the current media attention regarding harassment and worse, it is in my view timely to remind us that we must all respect each other.
As members of Long Reef SLSC we need to ensure that we comply not only with our club’s Constitution, but also with Surf Lifesaving Australia’s various policies. One such policy is the Member Protection Policy.
The Member Protection Policy says that as members of the Surf Lifesaving movement we as members of Long Reef SLSC must all ensure that we value safety, trust, respect, caring and that we are all responsible.
It goes without saying that we do not need such a policy to know that we must ensure we provide a safe environment for all involved in Surf Lifesaving activities for our fellow members and ensure their safety and wellbeing, in particular for our nippers, cadets and juniors as well as members of the public generally.
Furthermore, we must all ensure that we:
– treat others as you would like to be treated yourself
– be ethical, considerate, fair, courteous and honest with others
– refrain from any form of abuse, harassment, discrimination and any form of victimization towards our fellow members and others
– maintain a duty of care towards others
– ensure that any physical contact with others is appropriate to the situation
– provide a safe environment for the conduct of all our activities
Should any of you have any concerns that a member may be acting in a manner contrary to the above you may contact me (president@longreef.com) or any other member of the Management Committee (MC) as soon as possible. The MC will then act on them by going through the proper process as defined within the club’s Constitution. That said it is also timely to remind you that the MC will also act should any frivolous or unjustified complaint be made against a fellow member.
Last but not least, any active member of the club over the age of 18 involved in volunteer activities (for example as a patroller, age group manager, coach or helper) who comes in contact with children under the age of 18 must complete the Working With Children Check (WWCC). If you have not already done so, please complete the check as soon as possible. If you have any doubt whether you need to complete it or not, please click here to read the guidelines.
