Fellow Longy Members
I would like to congratulate each and every one of you (and in particular our patrolling members) for contributing to another excellent season at Longy. Although the final numbers are not yet in we provided approximately 5000 hours of beach management and rescue services.
We had over 400 happy nippers who together with their families I am sure improved both their skills and confidence at and on the beach. An outstanding effort by all. It would be remiss of me not to give special mention to our superb education team led by Justin who successfully trained new Bronze and SRC members along with a number of other surf lifesaving awards.
There have been some great results on the surf life saving competition front with some of our Nippers and Cadets making their mark at a NSW state level. We look forward to seeing more of our young guard join them next season. The club championships were also very popular this season, as were the regular run-swim-runs and board races.
In surf boat rowing I would in particular like to congratulate the Bass crew for gaining Silver in the gruelling 190kms George Bass surf boat marathon down the south coast of NSW and the Vets crew for winning Gold at the recent Australian Surf Championships in Perth. It is also exciting to see new teams join the Longy rowing community, such as the all-female Misfits, as well as a mixed Cadets team.
The future at Longy appears bright and I look forward to seeing as many of you as possible at our Annual Dinner and Presentation night to be held at Narrabeen RSL Club on Saturday the 2nd June 2018. A formal invitation will be coming your way in the next few days. If you have not already done so, please put this date in your calendar so that we can together congratulate ourselves on the successful season just past.
It goes without saying that I look forward to your continued involvement in and continuing contribution to Long Reef SLSC next season and beyond.
Regards, Peter
